Kate Douglass Dominates in the Pool at the TYR Pro Swim Series in Knoxville

Known for her ability to excel in two swim disciplines, Kate Douglass continues to push the boundaries of what is possible at the pool. She notched two second-place finishes in the prelims of the women’s 100 free and 100 breaststroke events on Thursday. Her impressive performances set the stage for an exciting day of competition at the TYR Pro Swim Series meet in Knoxville.

In the morning session, Douglass surged ahead with a time of 54.14 in the 100 free, securing the second spot behind her former University of Virginia teammate, Gretchen Walsh. Walsh, who went 54.06, showcased a strong performance, making for an exhilarating race.

Kate Douglass’s Remarkable Performance in Two Events

For Douglass, the action did not slow down as she shifted her focus to the 100 breaststroke. Her back-to-back performance led to a time of 1:07.31, landing her in the second spot. It was Mona McSharry who held the lead, clocking in at 1:06.65. Douglass’s swift transitions between events and tenacity in the pool were nothing short of inspiring, making her a standout talent.






Competition Intensifies with Premier Swimmers

Simone Manuel secured the third spot in the 100 free with a competitive time of 54.26. Following suit, Maxine Parker and Torri Huske demonstrated their skills, entering the sub-55 second category. Abbey Weitzeil and Beata Nelson were neck and neck with 55.07, earning them a place in the A final. Notably, the likes of Claire Curzan, Maggie MacNeil, and Katie Ledecky found themselves on the edge of missing out on the final rounds, paving the way for an intense day of competition.

The race in the 100 breaststroke saw Lilly King taking third place with a time of 1:07.60, while Lydia Jacoby secured the fourth spot. Alex Walsh from UVA proved her talent by clinching the sixth position in both the 100 free and 100 breast. Her timings of 55.01 and 1:08.56 were a testament to her versatility in the pool.
