On June 21, 2022, Torok was preparing for the most significant swim of his career, the semifinal of the men’s 200 individual medley at the World Aquatics Championships. Hailing from Budapest, the opportunity to swim at his first Worlds in his hometown was an unforgettable experience that he cherished deeply.

The atmosphere at the Duna Arena was electric, sparked by countryman Kristof Milak’s world record-setting performance in the 200 butterfly just 45 minutes before Torok’s swim. Despite finishing 15th in the semifinals, the moment provided the 20-year-old swimmer with a clear vision of his potential in the international swimming scene, igniting a flame of ambition within him.

After his remarkable experience in Budapest, Torok embarked on a journey to Madison, Wisconsin, aiming to unlock new levels of success in his swimming career with the Badgers. His decision to pursue collegiate swimming in the United States was driven by his desire to reach new heights and fulfill his Olympic dreams, which presented challenges in his native Hungary due to the demanding balance between academics and swimming.

His transition to the American system proved fruitful as Torok made significant strides in his swimming career. Competing in NCAAs in the 400 IM and 200 IM, he showcased his potential by clinching the Big Ten championship title in the former event. With impressive times in the 400 IM and 200 fly, Torok is poised to make his mark at the upcoming Big Ten championships, reflecting the progress he has made since crossing the Atlantic.
