Dean Boxall Named Swimming World International Coach of Year

World-renowned Aussie swimming coach, Dean Boxall, recently earned the prestigious title of Swimming World’s International Coach of the Year, as reported by Ian Hanson in December’s digital issue of the magazine.

In late July, during the World Championships in Fukuoka, the crowd bore witness to yet another record-breaking night in the pool, with the Australians securing multiple gold medals, reminiscent of their glory days in 2001. Australia’s return to dominance in the sport was characterized by their success in the women’s 4×200 meter freestyle relay, which marked the beginning of a new golden era in Australian swimming. The historic night saw four young girls from Boxall’s squad at St Peters Western, an elite swim club in Brisbane, clinch victory in a world record-breaking feat that left Boxall full of pride.

The accomplishment had a profound effect, sparking Boxall’s reflection on the team’s performances. According to Boxall, the girls’ success in Fukuoka was unprecedented, with all of the ten swimmers sent by St Peters to the Australian team coming home with medals. He noted the significance of the team’s magnificent individual performances and their world record-breaking relay. As Boxall observed the athletes, he couldn’t help but feel a sense of relief and happiness, knowing that they raced for each other and their country, and they had emerged victorious. The achievement was a testament to their unity, determination, and unwavering commitment to the sport.
