Leon Marchand Turns Pro, Will Train with Bob Bowman

Leon Marchand Makes Transition to Professional Swimming

Having completed his collegiate swimming career at Arizona State University, Leon Marchand has officially entered the realm of professional swimming. This significant milestone in his career was confirmed by Coach Bob Bowman, who will be guiding Marchand’s training at the University of Texas. Bowman, who recently led Arizona State to an NCAA title, will also be joining the French coaching staff for the upcoming Paris Olympics.

During the TYR Pro Swim Series in San Antonio, Bowman shared his excitement about Marchand’s transition, stating, “He is a pro. He was going to do that at ASU after this past meet.” This move comes after Marchand’s stellar performance at the NCAA Championship in March, where he not only set a world record in the 400 IM but also led Arizona State to its first-ever NCAA team title.

Marchand’s Record-Breaking Achievements and Ongoing Partnership with Coach Bowman

At the NCAA Championship, Marchand showcased his exceptional skills by claiming victories in the 400 IM, 500 free, and 200 breaststroke in record-breaking fashion. His remarkable performance included becoming the first man to swim under 1:29 in the 200 free and delivering a dominant performance in the 500 free with the fastest time ever seen in the event. Marchand’s strategic use of underwater dolphin kicking set him apart in the 20-lap race, earning him accolades and admiration from the swimming community.

As he continues his journey in the professional swimming circuit, Marchand will be under the guidance of Coach Bowman, whose expertise has played a pivotal role in shaping him into one of the world’s top swimmers. Bowman expressed his support for Marchand’s decision to join the French coaching staff, highlighting the collaborative and supportive environment that will benefit both the athlete and the coaching team. This partnership not only underscores Marchand’s commitment to excellence but also signifies a new chapter in his swimming career, marked by continued growth and success.
